Sensor-controlled robot workshop

This future workshop concept connects robot movement with sensor input. Develop control code, read a sensor, and test a programmed response such as stopping when an object is detected. Controller, sensor, and chassis choices remain open.

Generated ESP32 component illustration with two TT geared motors, a motor driver, an HC-SR04 distance sensor, colourful jumper wires, and JST leads.
Generated illustration of selected proposed electronics. Final kit contents TBD. Project photography will replace this image.

LEARNING TOPICS

Planned activities

  1. 01Connect a controller, motor driver, and motors.
  2. 02Program movement and read a sensor input.
  3. 03Test how a sensor reading changes the robot’s behaviour.

HARDWARE

Proposed components

Proposed electronics: ESP32 development board, two TT geared motors, dual motor driver, HC-SR04 distance sensor, Dupont jumper wires, and JST connectors. Wheels, chassis, and power supply will be confirmed with the final design. Kit contents TBD.

Possible extensions

A future version may compare programmed responses with TinyML, which runs machine learning models on a microcontroller. AI features are not confirmed.

Experience requirements, supplied equipment, kit contents, and take-home arrangements TBD.
